On tooling, PVD coating helps machining tools resist wear and help reduce the pickup of contaminants that slow production and cause downtime. Because friction is also reduced, machine tools can run faster and thus increase throughput. PVD coating reduces or eliminates entirely the need for cutting fluids and other lubricants.

PVD coatings can also be applied to decorative chrome plated appliances, plumbing fixtures, door hardware, automotive trim and marine fittings. In these applications, the PVD coating adds a brilliant, decorative topcoat finish that is very hard and wear resistant.
