At Master Finish Company, continuous improvement isn’t just a philosophy—it’s a commitment to our customers, our team, and the environment. That’s why we’re excited to share a major upgrade we’ve made to our plating line: the replacement of our legacy silicon diode rectifiers with cutting-edge digital SCR rectification units.
From Bulky to Brilliant: Efficiency That Makes a Difference
Our previous system operated at about 70–80% efficiency, which was standard in its day. But times have changed, and so has the technology. The new digital SCR rectifiers we’ve installed now operate at 95% efficiency—a huge step forward that brings environmental, economic, and operational benefits to every project we touch.
- Environmental Impact: Less power usage means lower carbon footprint and a reduced environmental impact.
- Cost Savings: Improved efficiency equals reduced energy consumption and lower operating costs.
- Precision Control: We can now control plating current down to the nearest amp, compared to the 100-amp range previously. That’s a game-changer for consistency and quality.
Smarter Design, Smoother Operation
Size matters—and in this case, smaller is better. The old rectifiers were the size of a refrigerator. The new units? About the size of a commercial microwave. This compact footprint gives us valuable floor space back—space we’re already planning to use for enhanced filtration and other process improvements.
What’s more, the modular design of the new SCR units has dramatically improved our maintenance and uptime. Instead of hours (or even days) waiting for parts or repairs, we can now swap a board and be back online in minutes. That means more reliability for our team—and better delivery timelines for our customers.
The Results Speak for Themselves
After a couple of years running with this upgraded technology, the benefits are clear. We’ve seen measurable improvements in:
- Plating quality
- Operational costs
- On-time delivery
In today’s fast-paced job shop plating world, quality, cost, and delivery aren’t optional—they’re essential. With our new SCR rectification units, we’re better equipped than ever to deliver on all three.
